Ellie's Plot - we have lift-off!

Today was a perfect day to catch up with Ellie after our holiday, looks like a lot's been happening!  Here's some pics - she's dead excited!  She's got some coriander, kale and sunflower (not sure about the poppy, well, there's more seeds, so we can keep trying!) and now moved on from the spray bottle to the watering can - as she says "It's yellow, like the sun!"

Ellie's Plot - Potatoes & growth

Well, it's time to be planting out the potatoes that Ellie's been carefully chitting.  She's got 3 - 2 pink fir apples and a generic one we dug up from our allotment.  Mum and Dad have been given strict instructions of their duties, which I know will be followed to the letter!

While we were at it (and before the rain came back), Ellie put in some more californian poppy and sunflower seeds, because it looked like the cat had been for a little dig in there. 

There are some coriander and curly kale come up, which we were all very pleased to see!  We also left her some cress seeds to plant with Dad during the week.

Ellie's Potatoes

Just a quick update on the lovely Ellie's plot - her potatoes are chitting nicely, they came out of the cupboard just for the photo - there are two Pink Fir Apples and one generic potato that I dug up from our allotment.  I think they'll be able to be planted next week and ready to eat for birthday tea!

The strawberry plants that I gave her last year have returned again and the new growth is looking good - at about the same stage as the ones at the allotment!  She should be getting good amounts of fruit from these!

26 Feb 2012 - Ellie's Plot

Well, this is a little different, but I've been asked to help little Ellie grow her first plants, which I'm over the moon about!  Been patiently waiting for my Mad-Aunty duties to be needed!

I was asked around the start of Feb - the week before all the next-lot-of-snow warnings, so I put it off.  Now it's getting a little better and I've seen daffs and blossom out, we're going to get started.

I want it to be her plot, so I've found a few interesting flowers and veges to grow and she can choose the ones she wants.  All the packets have pictures on, so it'll be much more exciting than pointing to a boring seed! (I hope...)

We've bought her a little spray bottle for watering (not drowning), some labels so she knows something's down there and she's got a choice of:

Pretty
Chinese lanterns
Peacock Orchids
Aquilegia
Freesia (scented)
Sunflower
Californian Poppy
Gourds (decorative)

Edible
Chives
Lettuce - red, lambs or corn
Coriander - smells fab
Kale -pick a leaf
Rainbow spinach - pick a leaf
Dwarf Beans - burgundy
Pink Fir Apples (potatoes) - 2, complete with egg carton to chit

It is a lot to choose from, but pretty sure she won't want them all - it'll be cool to compare what each of us thinks is a great choice - considering we're a few years older than Ellie....

Aunty: Sunflower, Rainbow Spinach, Peacock Orchids, Burgundy Beans, Potatoes, a Lettuce.
Uncle: Chives, Sunflower, Californian Poppy, Burgundy Beans, Potatoes.
Mum: Burgundy Beans, Rainbow Spinach.
Dad: Californian Poppy, Sunflower.
Actual: Sunflower, Californian Poppy, Coriander, Kale, Potatoes.
